Abstract
This presentation introduces the Cochin Cambridge Hebrew New Testament from India—Cambridge University Library MSS Oo.1.32, Oo.1.16.1, and Oo.1.16.2—situating the corpus within Hebrew New Testament transmission before focusing on the Hebrew Revelation preserved in MS Oo.1.16.2. These manuscripts are preserved in early modern copies; this study does not claim that they are ancient in their present form. Yet the copy date does not settle the text's age, source, or layered history.
After introducing the corpus, the presentation turns to Revelation as the clearest test case for the manuscript's layered Semitic profile. The Cochin materials should be studied not merely as late curiosities, but as complex witnesses to Semitic textual, scribal, and interpretive traditions. Revelation's textual variants and distinctive readings alter the interpretive texture of the text.
The Pastoral Epistles—often dated to the early-to-mid second century—serve as a useful control case. If the Cochin Hebrew New Testament had been produced through a uniform late translation or editorial procedure, the same rabbinic-style profile should appear more evenly across the corpus. It does not.
In Revelation, readings such as "the First and the Last," ha-sodot, the mottled horse, tav, siman, bat kol, and zamar/mizmor draw the text into prophetic language, Tanakh imagery, divine mystery, rabbinic idiom, and scribal transmission.

Janice F. Baca is an independent researcher and translator who leads the translation team at Project Truth Ministries in the United States. Her recent work has focused on Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Aramaic, and the Cochin Hebrew New Testament manuscripts preserved at Cambridge University Library. She is the author and lead translator of The Scroll of Mysteries: Cochin Hebrew Revelation, Third Edition, which presents the Cochin Hebrew Revelation through translation, transcription, manuscript study, interlinear analysis, and commentary.
