Understanding the history of ancient Israel requires integrating biblical texts, archaeological evidence, and ancient Near Eastern sources. EHJ 2026 features scholars examining the formation of Israelite identity, the political history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, the historical questions surrounding the Exodus, the Persian period return from exile, and the broader historical context of the Levantine world. Sessions explore how recent archaeological discoveries and textual analysis modify our understanding of biblical narratives and what literary and material evidence reveals about Israelite society, religion, and culture.
