Inscriptions carved in stone, pottery, and other materials provide direct physical evidence for ancient language and practice. EHJ 2026 examines Hebrew and Canaanite inscriptions from Lachish, Jerusalem, and other sites, including the development of the Hebrew and Canaanite alphabets, scribal practices, and what inscriptions reveal about ancient society and religion. Sessions explore how technological advances including machine learning now allow new analysis of epigraphic evidence alongside traditional paleographic and philological study.
